ABOUT SENATE DISTRICT 59
The 59th Senate District is comprised of all or parts of four counties: Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, and Monroe. Presenting unique challenges to it's representative who needs to represent constituents in the suburbs of Buffalo and rural counties of Wyoming and Livingston. There are no "cities", 42 towns, and 21 villages.
Representing 40 independent school districts, this senate district has an average household income $61,300 with approximately 25% of households with children under the age of 18. With the racial breakdown: 90% White, 3.8% African American, 2.5% Latinx, and 1.8% Asian.
Agriculture is the #1 industry in the district, followed by traditional business and manufacturing operations. Wyoming County leads the state in dairy production.
SD 59 is bordered by six other State Senate districts and is also represented by six State Assembly members: 133, 138, 142, 143, 144, 147.
It is represented by three congressional districts, seats currently held by Congressman Joseph Morelle - D (NY25), Congressman Brian Higgins - D (NY26), and recently resigned Chris Collins (NY27).
